What Is Hapkido?

Hapkido means, "the way of coordinated power and harmony"

It is another martial art we offer that originated from Korea.  What makes Hapkido unique is that it is a softer style martial art focusing on circular movements.  Hapkido is very practically centered, and focuses heavily on teaching it's practitioners how to defend themselves in the street, or protect themselves from falling.

Self-Defense

Hapkido self-defense uses their opponent's power, momentum, and anatomy against themselves.  It is meant to allow a smaller weaker opponent, incapacitate a larger tougher opponent.  We also learn how to disarm attackers wielding weapons, and various joint locks.  Hapkido does incorporate some basic throwing techniques as well.

Pressure Points

Understanding where to strike the body is just as important as understanding how to strike the body.  We train our students to understand the body's vital spots, and more sensitive areas, so that they can use them to subdue an attacker.

Rolling/Falling

Many people think that self-defense only means "against an opponent".  The truth is so many injuries take place due to everyday accidents. Students practice rolling, and falling techniques, so that they can protect their head and vital spots in any situation.  Advanced students test their ability with high rolls, and distance rolls.

Ground-Sparring

Our style of Hapkido also incorporates ground sparring. In this style of sparring, two competitors begin on the ground, and try to make their opponent submit, using various locks and chokes.  In this event, no striking is permitted.
